igloo.inc: Inside a WebGL2 Procedural Crystal Experience
igloo.inc is a striking immersive web experience built on Three.js with WebGL2 rendering, GPGPU particle systems, and Draco/KTX2 compressed 3D assets. Here’s what we found when we reverse-engineered their JavaScript application using REA.
Architecture Overview
The entire application is delivered as a single minified index.jsindex.js bundle (16.5 KB) served from Vercel’s CDN through Cloudflare. The main bundle dynamically loads the WebGL rendering code via dynamic import: ./App3D-d68cb154.js.
Key Technical Findings
- 20 module exports — all single-letter identifiers (
S,a,b,c…t) from aggressive minification - Webpack hot-update pattern detected:
g.c.push(()=>{O.delete(t),o&&t.d(1),o())}) - 112 functions in the JavaScript Application Graph, with 232 call sites and 2,173 data-flow relations traced
- All 45 expressions have source map references — the bundle ships with complete sourcemaps
- 335 closure relations tracked — heavy use of closures for state management
- 9 Promise objects tracked in the static analysis
- 1 network request detected in source code
Asset Pipeline
The site loads compressed texture assets including ground_color.ktx2, ground_glow.ktx2, and a perlin-datatexture.png. The team wrote a custom VDB-to-browser exporter for their volume data, compressing it smaller than a typical website image.
Static Analysis Scope
REA parsed 3,644 AST nodes across 142 lines of minified JavaScript. The analysis extracted 865 semantic graph unknowns — these are unproven runtime relationships that would require execution to verify.
